AI Innovation policy for sectoral sustainability transitions (AI-ST)

Contact person: Tuukka Mäkitie

Status: Project

AI-ST investigates how AI use can be governed to contribute to decarbonization of energy and transport sectors. AI-ST develops a first-of-its-kind transformative innovation policy framework for governing AI applications in sustainability transitions (i.e., fundamental changes in production and consumption patterns). The development of this framework requires theorization, methodological toolkits and exploration of empirical cases. To achieve this the project builds on literature and policy reviews, interviews, empirical case studies, regulatory analysis and transdisciplinary research. AI-ST’s aim is to equip policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders with knowledge and tools to nudge AI use in the direction of solving societal problems like climate change, rather than letting AI undermine the efforts to solve such challenges.
